HOCKINESE DICTIONARY

The Hockinese Dictionary (named afterHocking County, Ohio) started with two guys, indulging in post work libation in Lancaster, Ohio; they were saying words a little differently than they were supposed to be said.  It was kind of in a ”down home” sort of way.  It became a competitive thing that continued, day after day at the same watering hole and then on to new locations for the next thirty-five years.  Later, It did not occur on a daily basis, but happened when the urge was felt, usually as the result of some audio/visual stimulus that seemed appropriate for cataloging a new word or phrase. The following is a teaser of what is seen in the results of these two guys to date present.

   Me and Jim was over to Blackies for lunch havin prentzels and beer at the table by the  bafroom when we seen an ambliance goin by with 2 gus who’d walked inta a chimley over to the liberry n busted their heads on the miloleum floor.  Seems these here fellas been feeshin at Lake Logan  ‘nn coun’nt finger out how ta git round some boshes ta git down ta where the feesh was.

   These here fellers wasn’t real smart cuz when they seen the siren cumin they hollered “We wasn’t hurtin nobody, jest tryin to ketch some feesh.”   All the townsfolks wonnert why  theyz feeshin at the liberry.  Anyhow, aint never been s’many people over thar  wif bait cans and everthing looking fer water.  Me and Wayne ‘re goin over thar agin t’night.  Bought me a new feeshin pole ‘n Waynes gonna use this buzzfinder.  All them dried up things on the wall, water musta been purty deep sometime

   Ennyhow, them two fellers shore did appreshalate gittin some fixins to their heads even though there wasn’t no doctors or nobody over to the horspital emergency room fer awhile, jest some broads in the kitchin worshen deeshes
